It could be that I am more sensitive to negative energy than my co-workers or they are indifferent; but after a few months walking through the front door early in the morning and become neausated by the smell of fear, stilfled by the lingering frustration of the children and floored by the clawing sense of ‘something’ else, chillling, goosebumps, as if the walls are full of living entities.

Every three months I know it is time to bring Dr. Billie back to smudge and clear the air, take out the soap scum of negative emotions and feelings that are left in the walls of our private little school for kids with special needs. She arrives with a smile on her face carrying a tote full of candles, incense, crystals, feathers, a drum for me to pound on as we walk around her waving smoking sage into the corners. Then she walks back through the classrooms with something she called ‘sweetgrass’.

As she waves the smoking sage bundle up and down the rooms, in the corners, waving in certain areas a bit longer, sometimes the sage flares up catching into a flame then settling down into a soft smoulder of sweet smelling smoke. The rooms smell like a campfire. Somehow, amazingly, the smoke detectors don’t go off – Dr. Billie says she ‘shields’ the sensors, who knows if she is kidding or not. What I do know is that if one of the teachers burns toast the smoke alarms go off but never do when Dr. Billie is smudging the place – and often it may look as if a smoke bomb has gone off.

Dr. Billie is very professional; she teaches as she smudges, explaining what she is doing and why. She will turn to me and ask, “Can you feel the coldness right here?” And I move to the place where she pointed, sometimes I do, most of the time, not so much. But after she leaves the offices, halls and doorways feel safe and comforting.
You can tell Dr. Billie knows what she is doing and that she senses energy. She will motion for me to look at the sage bundle right before it bursts into a flaming bundle of fire and ash, then just as suddenly the flames settle down to fiery sparks.

At the end of the saging, smudging and clearing ritual, Billie lets out a long sigh as if she had been holding in her breath from anxiety, but then she smiles and you can tell that she takes her work very seriously. She is very sensitive to energy. The end of the ceremony she ends it by dipping the fiery sage in a glass bowl of clear fresh water. For days and weeks the offices and class rooms smell like a campfire, very pleasant and comforting. But the best part is that our finances seem to flow again, as if she cleared a clog in thefunnle that brought our small private school prosperity.

If you have employee problems, client’s won’t pay, business is down, I would suggest you give this a try. As Billie says, the solution may be to clear the air before you clean your carpet!
